Riverside Zoo Summer 2008 Programs

Pre-school – 8th Grade

Tiger Tales
(Pre-school Program)

10:00 - 10:30 a.m. Every Wednesday in June and July.
Free with admission. Tiger Tales is all about fun stories and meeting animals at the zoo.

Kinderfari
(For children who’ve completed Kindergarten, no exceptions)
All Kinderfari classes are $16 for members and $18 for non-members.
Limit 12 per session. Snacks provided.
Session I: Insectigations, June 4 & 5, 9 a.m. - Noon

Insectigations will explore many different kinds of insects. Children will view insects up close and take adventures through the zoo looking for them. They will learn about metamorphosis, the role insects play in our ecosystem and more! Register by May 28.
Session II: Animal Tracks, July 24 & 25, 9 a.m. - Noon
Animal tracks will teach children about identifying signs animals leave in nature. They’ll make plaster casts, examine the feet of real animals, create animal track art and much more.
Register by July 16.

Wild Discoveries
(for children who’ve completed 1st and 2nd grade)
June 12 & 13, 9 a.m. - Noon

Children will explore the zoo and learn about wild animals such as cats and moose. They will make casts of footprints and more. Includes snacks and T-shirt. Limited to 12 students.
Pre-register by June 4. $16 (members), $18 Non-Members.
For children who’ve completed 1st or 2nd grade.

Dinosaurs Alive!
(for children who’ve completed 1st and 2nd grade)

uly 9 & 10, 9:00 a.m. - Noon

This new program will explore fossils and fun facts about dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals. Snacks included. Class size is limited to 12 students. Pre-register by July 2,
$14 per child (members), $16 Non-members. For children who’ve completed 1st or 2nd grade.

Winged Wonders
(for children who’ve completed 3rd or 4th grade)

June 16 & 17, 9 a.m. - Noon
Children will learn about birds of prey such as eagles and hawks as well as other birds. They’ll also meet various raptors up close and examine owl pellets. Crafts and activities will reinforce facts about these amazing animals. Includes snacks and T-shirt. Limited to 12 students.
Pre-register by June 11. $16 members, $18 non-members.
For children who’ve completed 3rd or 4th grade.

Prehistoric Animal Adventure
(for children who’ve completed 3rd or 4th grade)
July 14 & 15, 9:00 a.m. - Noon
This new program will explore fossils and fun facts about dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals. Children will gain perspective of the size of many of these animals as well as create their own fossils. Snakes included. Class size is limited to 12 students. Pre-register by June 11,
$16 members, $18 non-members. For children who’ve completed 3rd or 4th grade.

Nocturnal Natives
(for children who’ve completed 5th or 6th grade)

July 16 - 18, 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Bring a sack lunch. Includes a field trip on the 18th!
Children will learn about several native species and their habitats. This camp includes a field trip to explore habitats and look for signs of wildlife. Includes snacks and T-shirt.
Limited to 12 students. Pre-register by July 9.
$20 members, $22 non-members. For children who’ve completed 5th or 6th grade.

Jr. Zookeepers
Grades 5th-6th
, June 24-26, 9:00 a.m. - Noon
Grades 7th-8th
, August 5-7, 9:00 a.m. - Noon
Jr. Zookeepers will learn about animals at the zoo through hands-on experiences with zookeepers. They’ll also learn about enrichment, conservation and exhibit design. Includes snacks and T-shirt. Class size is limited to 10. Pre-register by June 18 and July 30 respectively. $22 members, $24 non-members.
